چکیده

We present a detailed analysis of a graphbased annotation strategy that we employed to annotate a corpus of 11,292 real-world English to Spanish automatic translations with relative (ranking) and absolute (adequate/nonadequate) quality assessments. The proposed approach, inspired by previous work in Interactive Evolutionary Computation and Interactive Genetic Algorithms, results in a simpler and faster annotation process. We empirically compare the method against a traditional, explicit ranking approach, and show that the graph-based strategy: 1) is considerably faster, and 2) produces consistently more reliable annotations.

A Quality Control Framework for Gold Standard Reference Translations: The Process and Toolkit Developed for GALE

While a multitude of machine translation (MT) evaluation metrics exist, most require one or more gold standard references. For the DARPA GALE program, source data is translated according to detailed guidelines and high quality standards, but these raw translations then undergo a rigorous and carefully constructed quality control (QC) process to create the final references. GALE evaluation trans...

Graham, Yvette, Timothy Baldwin, Alistair Moffat and Justin Zobel (to appear) Can Machine Translation Systems be Evaluated by the Crowd Alone? Natural Language Engineering

Crowd-sourced assessments of machine translation quality allow evaluations to be carried out cheaply and on a large scale. It is essential, however, that the crowd’s work be filtered to avoid contamination of results through the inclusion of false assessments. One method is to filter via agreement with experts, but even amongst experts agreement levels may not be high. In this paper, we present...

Graph Hybrid Summarization

One solution to process and analysis of massive graphs is summarization. Generating a high quality summary is the main challenge of graph summarization. In the aims of generating a summary with a better quality for a given attributed graph, both structural and attribute similarities must be considered. There are two measures named density and entropy to evaluate the quality of structural and at...
